GC Mathew Kaley makes the move from Allianz to McCabe Curwood

Sydney, 18 July 2019: McCabe Curwood has welcomed the addition of the former General Counsel and Company Secretary of Allianz Australia, Mathew Kaley, to expand the Sydney team.

Kaley has made a move to private practice, joining McCabe Curwood to build a specialist corporate regulatory and insurance advisory practice group, that draws on his 17 years of experience leading the Allianz legal team.

“I have made the move to the McCabe Curwood corporate commercial group as they are a great fit for me to build a specialised regulatory and advisory offering,” said Kaley. "McCabe Curwood has both a strong reputation in commercial law and an extensive insurance practice. They also have a culture that encourages innovation, which is an essential element in providing effective legal advice to industry clients."

“My insurance background and knowledge of the insurance industry will enable me to make sure that my offering to clients is both practical and able to be applied in a business context. I am looking forward to working with the industry to assist it to meet the challenges and opportunities that sit before it.”

Managing Principal Andrew Lacey says that the addition of Kaley further aligns the firm with their strategic vision; to be able to partner with organisations and offer the best specialist advice.

The addition of Kaley also speaks to the values of the firm, which has just celebrated its first birthday.

“McCabe Curwood is working to continue it’s equally strong commercial and insurance offer. We have great top legal minds and expertise across both the distinctly different practice areas. Mathew Kaley’s insurance background and corporate technical ability will appeal within an industry in which we already have a strong reputation.

“This is a perfect example of the complementary legal practice we are building,” says Lacey.

Kaley’s corporate advisory practice at McCabe Curwood will specialise in insurance advisory and cover a broad range of regulatory and commercial law applicable to financial services entities.
